About Target
Founded as Goodfellow Dry Goods in 1902 and rebranded in 1962, Target is now the second biggest retailer in the US, with locations in Canada and India as well. As of October 2015, Target’s international website ships to over 200 countries where there are no brick and mortar locations. Nowadays, Target has over 1,800 retail stores throughout the US in different store formats, such as SuperTarget, Target, TargetExpress, and CityTarget, depending on their location and the local customers’ shopping needs.
Target employs hundreds of thousands of people and offers everything from electronics and school accessories to home goods and health products. You’ll probably find a small Starbucks at Target retail locations, as well as food counters where you can purchase popcorn or slushies to snack on while you shop. If you’re looking for a great deal on Target merchandise, then keep reading to discover more.
Exploring Target.com
Target highlights their latest discounts and new arrivals at the top of their homepage, and you can shop by category from the drop-down menu on the left-hand side of their website. You’ll find everything from shoes, makeup, and clothing to outdoor gear, movies, and other electronic items for sale on their website. Fresh grocery items are not sold online, but you’ll still be able to find nonperishable food and beverages on Target.com.
If you regularly buy the same item from Target’s website, then you could save an additional 5% on your order by signing up for a subscription (not to mention: free shipping!). You can quickly decide your delivery dates and desired quantities through the subscription system, and Target even offers free returns on subscription items if you decide you don’t like it or don’t want to receive it anymore.
Bargain Hunting with Target
Target has a fantastic clearance section on their website, with main categories being clothing for all ages and genders, home goods, and toys. If you live near a Target retail location, then you could check out their Weekly Ad online for additional savings before you buy. Some items, when purchased in bulk, come with a free $5 or $10 Target gift card. Be sure to sign up for the Target e-newsletter for the latest updates on their weekly deals.
You can find additional ways to save at Target by checking their current promotions section on their website, or going on their Facebook page to see what’s currently hot.
Target REDcard
Target offers branded debit and credit cards, called Target REDcards. Both cards include sweet member benefits like free shipping on Target.com, 30 extra days to return an item and 5% back on Target purchases. For the debit card specifically, there is no annual fee, you can withdraw up to $40 in cash at Target stores, it’s chip-and-PIN enabled, and the card pulls from your checking account when you make a purchase. For the Target credit card specifically, there is no annual fee and the card has a security chip. With the credit card, you can manage your payments online.
Target Cartwheel App
Target has an app called Cartwheel. The company claims it has saved their customers over $490,000,000 as of early 2016. With this app, all you need to do is locate the item you want to buy in the simplified search function in the app, scan the barcode on the items you’re buying at checkout, and boom! Easy savings. You’ll need a Target, Facebook, or Google account to get started, but it’s so simple and can save you so much that it’s worth it for many Target regulars. Sample savings include 5% off cereal boxes, $5 off women’s fitness clothing, or Buy 1, Get 1 Free on a select brand of shampoo and conditioner.
Checking Out on Target.com
When you’re ready to check out on Target’s website, be ready with your payment and billing information, as well as any promo codes you might have for added savings. Target has an entire FAQ section dedicated to promo codes in case you encounter any problems when you’re trying to apply coupon codes at checkout.
Target accepts a variety of payment methods including Target REDcard (both the debit and credit versions will save you 5% on your purchase), Target gift cards, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, PayPal, and Apple Pay.
Target Customer Service and Social Media
Target has a customer service line just for their online customers at 1-800-591-3869, or you can choose to contact them through live chat on Target.com.
For the latest news on new Target items, seasonal savings, and coupons, follow Target on social media. Find them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube to get stay in the know.
Target also loves hosting contests and sweepstakes for their customers. Sometimes there is no purchase necessary and prizes typically consist of a range of Target gift cards from $25 to $1,500. They primarily promote these contests on their social media outlets, but you can also check their website for ongoing contests.
If you have a Target REDcard or spend more than $25, then you’ll qualify for free shipping. You can also opt for free in-store pick-up. Rush delivery (same-day) is only available to residents in Boston, MA, Miami, FL, and Minneapolis, MN. If you can wait more than a day for your item, then you have the options of standard, premium, and express shipping. Shipping prices vary depending on your order.
Returns with Target are fairly straightforward. You can return an item ordered online in the store if you have the original payment method (e.g., a credit card), the item in excellent condition, and the packaging slip you received with the item in the mail. If you want to return an item by mail, you’ll have to access your Target order account online and start the returns process – printing the return label, assembling the return packaging, etc. – and get your refund within a few days.
